Good Morning America (GMA) did a nice story this morning about corporate volunteering. The premise was no news to us, as New York Cares creates more corporate volunteer opportunities than any other NYC organization.

We’re always delighted to see people getting the word out about the power of volunteering, corporate or otherwise!

Many news outlets are covering Giving USA’s annual report on charitable giving today. Last year, despite a challenging economic environment, giving squeaked upward by 1%. The outlook for 2008 is tougher.

L’Oréal Paris (L’Oreal USA is a New York Cares corporate supporter) has created the Women of Worth Program to celebrate women whose volunteer work is making a difference in the community.

Nominate a Woman of Worth you know at WomenofWorth.com. She could win $5000 to support her most cherished cause (hmmm…we know a deserving one!). One of the ten Honorees will receive an additional $25,000 to her cherished cause! In addition, L’Oréal will make a $5000 donation in her name to support the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund (OCRF). Nominations are due by June 16th!

Last night we held our annual Team Leader Celebration, with over 150 Team Leaders enjoying the festivities. To us, every Team Leader is a hero, but each year we honor 10 individuals who go beyond the call with special Leadership Awards. Congratulations to our 10 Award recipients, and every volunteer who leads a New York Cares project!
